Tutorial on how to
use Headus UVLayout:
Headus UVLayout is a
program that was created to help make unwrapping a breeze. You can download a
free trial here: https://www.uvlayout.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=72
Step one- open an
obj. in UVLayout by dropping the file onto the UVLayout icon and then clicking
on load.
Step two- If you have
not yet created seams on your object, you can create them by cutting with “c”
and welding with “w.” Use the left mouse button to rotate, the middle mouse
button to slide, and the right mouse button to zoom.
Step three- After
your seams have been created, hover over each of the separate pieces of the
object and press enter to detach it, and use space+the middle mouse button to
move the piece away.
Step four- “D” will
drop the piece into the UV space.
Step five- Switch to
UV mode, and flatten each item by holding “f” while hovering over the pieces;
you can use Shift+”f” to flatten more organic or complex shapes.
Step six- Make sure
your pieces are not stretched or squished (the more red or blue, the bigger the
problem.) Too edit the UV by hand, use Ctrl+the middle mouse button.
Step seven- Make sure
the pieces do not overlap; use Space+the Middle mouse button to move the
pieces.
Step eight- Save as
an obj, and then you can load it into 3D Studio Max, or other softwares.
